Capturing the Care Weekender with Rhiannon Faith Company
At Big Egg Films, we love working on projects that have something important to say and with a social impact that has a real legacy, so we were really excited to help the Rhiannon Faith Company with their incredible ‘Care Weekender’ project.
We have been working with Rhiannon and the team for a number of years now, and their projects are always a joy to be a part of and so we couldn’t wait to get stuck in again.
So, who are Rhiannon Faith Company?
Based in Harlow, Essex, Rhiannon Faith Company creates what they describe as “radically tender dance theatre” – using performance to bring people together, tackle injustice and create positive social change.
Their work is about much more than dance. By working collaboratively with local communities, artists, third sector partners and arts organisations, they use performance to tell real stories often giving a platform to people whose voices and experiences might otherwise go unheard.
And they’re certainly making an impact…
The company has picked up some impressive recognition along the way, including an Olivier Award nomination, five National Dance Awards and two One Dance UK awards shortlistings.
Whilst their work has taken them to big stages across the UK, community and care is still at the heart of what they do.
Their flagship Care House Project has been working with the Harlow community since 2022, using creativity to improve mental health and wellbeing, celebrate care and community, and provide hope for a better future.
A highlight of that work is the Care Weekender – an annual event that aims to bring the community together through performance, creativity and shared experiences.
Which is where Big Egg came in…
Our brief was to document the festival, capturing the energy and impact of the ambitious project in film and photography. Led by RFC and its dancers, the work was createdalongside the Harlow community, whose lived experiences helped shape the material.
We wanted to capture the performances and big moments, but it was just as important to look out for the smaller ones - the reactions, conversations and connections happening all around. By letting these moments unfold naturally, we could capture the real atmosphere of the weekend and the people at the heart of it.
Why community matters
Community is more important now than ever before, and having a strong sense of identity, belonging and connection can make a real difference.
And thats where Rhiannon Faith excels. Using poetry, dance and script, she helps people visualise their stories and gives them a stage to bring these important issues to life.
For us, being able to capture those stories through film and photography and help them reach an even wider audience is what makes project like this so special.
But don’t just take our word for it…
